DES MOINES -- Samantha Mellinger knew ahead of time, but the award at the state archery competition was a welcome announcement.
Mellinger was announced as a scholarship recipient at the state compettion last weekend.
The Haney Family Foundation and the Iowa Archery in the Schools Program support a scholarship for high school seniors. The foundation focuses its philanthropic efforts where education and agriculture intersect. As a legacy farm family, they believe in hard work, accepting personal responsibilities and being accountable. The family created the foundation to assistindividuals who maintain basic moral and ethical approaches to life and family.
“We believe those beliefs to be the bedrock of our great country,” the foundation said in a release.
The NASP was designed to promote student education and participation in a lifelong sport through international target style archery. The Iowa Department of Natural resources delivers this national program to as many schools as possible.
