Teams fight for playoffs in final week of regular season

While Solon has wrapped up the title in Class 3A District 6, a battle for a possible playoff spot remains for the second-place team between Mt. Pleasant and Washington. That will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Washington’s Case Field.

A battle for a district title will also take place at Sigourney Friday at 7 p.m. between Sigourney-Keota and Mediapolis.

New London also has a chance to tie for a district title in 8-4 but must defeat Montezuma and hope HLV loses, then see what the Ratings Percentage Index says.

In 3A-6, Washington’s Luke Turner (80 for 148 for 1,352 yards) and Mt. Pleasant’s Brody Bender (79 for 149 for 1,273 yards) are second and third in passing yardage. Turner has 14 touchdowns and six interceptions while Bender is at 17 TDs and 4 INTs.

Mt. Pleasant’s Logan Bass is first in the district with 785 yards rushing and first in carries at 107. Teammate Jack Johnson is third in yards at 688 and fourth in carries with 104.

Turner is second with 764 yards and eighth in carries at 97. Washington’s Wyatt Stout has 102 carries (fifth) for 632 yards (fourth).

Rylan Seberg of MP leads the district in receiving yards with 669 on 33 catches while Washington’s Ethan Hunt (552 on 23 catches) and Zac Stout (384 on 21) are third and fourth.

Mt. Pleasant’s Brevin Wilson leads the district in interceptions with six.

Turner is fourth in Class 3A in scoring with 104 points and Wyatt Stout is 10th with 78. Bass is 12th at 72.

Turner is fourth in 3A in total yards rushing and passing at 2,116.

SK’s Brady Duwa is third in the state, regardless of class, with eight interceptions. Highland’s Zane Arnold has six to tie for 10th.

Cardinal’s Jarrett Greiner is tied for 10th with four fumble recoveries.

Highland’s Owen Donovan is fifth in total punt return yardage with 299 on 12 returns.

Nik Coble is seventh in yards passing with 2.094 on 127 of 242 passes.

Shae Summerfield of New London is fourth in yards rushing at 1,669 on 158 carries. SK’s JD Stout is 12th with 1,450 on 112 carries. His 13 yards per carry average is first for anyone with a minimum of 75 carries.
