NEW LONDON — The New London boys basketball team was stunned at home on Tuesday night by a Holy Trinity team that stormed back in the final minutes to steal a 43-42 win.
The Tigers started off well, taking a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. Holy Trinity cut the lead down to three points before halftime, but New London still led 24-21 at the half.
New London used a nine-point third quarter from Grant Swanson to stretch the lead to eight points, at 38-30, after three quarters, but the Crusaders saved their best quarter for last.
HTC held New London to four points in the final eight minutes, a season low. The Crusaders scored 13 points of their own in the close out quarter.
New London is now in a rare spot, being below .500 for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Tigers are 1-2, heading into a showdown at Notre Dame on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Nikes are 3-0 in the South Division with a game at Holy Trinity on Friday night.
