MT. VERNON — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s basketball team saw a halftime lead disappear on Wednesday night at Cornell College. The Tigers were outscored by 15 points in the second half and fell 81-71 in nonconference play.
IW was red hot early on, leading by as much as 11 points int eh first half. The Rams were able to storm back and take a one-point lead with 3:15 left in the half, but IW closed the first half on a 10-4 run and led 43-38 at the halftime break.
The two teams traded blows, and the lead, early in the second half. The last lead change of the game came when Cornell’s Trevor Boge hit a three-pointer with 7:25 left on the clock to give the Rams a 65-63 advantage.
The Tigers were led by Jarryd Fernandes, who scored 21 points and brought down 10 rebounds to finish the night with a double-double. Alex Dentlinger scored 14 points and finished wiht 10 rebounds of his own.
Marvin Saintolien scored 12 points nad led the team with four steals. Austin Banks scored nine points and dished out five assists. Kaleb Cresswell had nine points of his own, and Jake Neubauer scored six.
Cornell was led by Cooper Kabela, who scored 23 points on the night. Mt. Pleasant graduate Jordan Magnani finished the game with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.
