There is not one, but two Union Area coverage teams in the Cedar Rapids Gazette/KGYM Radio/Southeast Iowa Union top 10 polls this week.

Not only has New London moved up one spot in the rankings from No. 5 to No. 4, but the area has its first ranked 3A team with Washington climbing into the No. 10 spot.

New London just keeps climbing. After crushing Moravia for their second-straight blowout win, the Tigers moved up from No. 5 to No. 4, leapfrogging Fremont-Mills after F-M suffered a shutout loss on Friday.

The Tigers will now turn their attention towards district play, and Class 8-Player District 4 is one of the most decorated in the class. Iowa Valley is tied at No. 5, Montezuma is currently receiving votes, and HLV had received votes in the poll earlier this season.

The Demons earned their way into the top 10 after a blowout win over Oskaloosa on Friday. Washington is tied for the No. 10 spot with Davenport Assumption.

Washington and Assumption took the place of Harlan, who dropped out after a loss last week. The Cyclones were ranked No. 8.

Washington’s new spot in the rankings makes their date with Iowa City Liberty this week even more intruiging. The Lightning sit at No. 9 in the 3A rankings, setting up a top-10 matchup in Iowa City.

One No. 1 team was bumped down since last week. In Class 4A, West Des Moines Dowling was defeated by West Des Moines Valley, moving Dowling down from No. 1 to No. 4 and moving Valley up from No. 2 to No. 1.

Listed below are the full rankings for this week in Iowa high school football.
