Tigers split with rival Danville

DANVILLE — New London and Danville battled to the buzzer in two games on Friday night. The Tiger girls were victorious, winning 39-33, but the boys dropped their game 68-63.

The Tiger girls led Danville 12-10 after one quarter and 25-16 at halftime. Danville won the second half, but the Tigers were able to hang on to pick up a SEISC South Division win.

Marah Hartrick scored 10 points in the win. Kara Kriege had nine. Layney Loyd finished the night with eight points and 15 rebound, and the duo of Ashlyn McSorley and Addie Pry scored six apiece. Natalie Burden didn’t score, but came off the bench to record four steals.

The boys led 20-14 after one quarter, but Danville battled back to take a 35-30 lead at halftime and stretched that advantage to 46-38 after three periods. New London fought back, scoring 25 in the fourth quarter, but the Bears hung on, thanks in part to 36 points from Ty Carr.

New London freshman Kade Benjamin led the Tigers with 18 points. Devon Swanson scored 12.
