NEWTON — A long trip equaled a victory for the Fairfield girls swimming team Tuesday.
“It is almost a two-hour drive and we got back about 10 p.m.,” Fairfield head coach Brittany Winslow said. “We beat Osky so that was good, The girls swam well!”
The meet was at Newton and the home team took a 77-15 win over the Trojans. Fairfield did not let that affect them as the edges Oskaloosa 43-38.
Willow Larsen’s time of 1 minute, 9.67 seconds was good for first place against Newton and Osky in the 100-yard backstroke. She also won the 50 free against both with a time of 29.42 seconds.
Larsen anchored the 200 medley relay with Clare Else, Emma Clubb and Ella Weigert to a win over Osky in 3:34.52. The 400 relay’s time of 5:09.36 bettered Osky with Clubb, Grace Sobaski, Else and Larson.
Else got a win in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:43.14.
The Trojans swim next at Burlington Sept. 26.
