Warriors silenced by Lone Tree

WAYLAND — It wasn’t a pretty day for the WACO offense on Friday night in its home game against Lone Tree. The Lions held the Warriors to just one touchdown all night, and Lone Tree walked out with a 42-6 victory.

Lone Tree running back Alex Viner was too much to handle in the firs thalf. Viner had three of the Lions’ four rushing touchdowns and WACO found itself trailing 28-0 at the break.

A 54-yard run by Lone Tree quarterback Cade Shield stretched the Lions’ lead to 34-0 early in the third quarter. WACO finally broke through with a five-yard run by Will Edeker later in the third quarter, but Lone Tree added a passing touchdown in the fourth.

Edeker went 9-for-24 throwing the ball for 54 yards and an interception. He also led the team in rushing, scampering for 64 yards and a touchdown. Jonah Clark had 42 yards on the ground.

Zach Schmitz and Simeon Reichenbach led the way for the WACO receivers. Schmitz caught four balls for 23 yards, and Reichenbach caught four passes for 22.

Taylor Sutton’s 10.5 tackles paced the defense. Reichenbach ended the night with 7.5 tackles and an interception, which he returned 22 yards.

WACO is now 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Warriors will travel to Moravia (0-3, 0-2) this week.
