WINFIELD — Winfield-Mt. Union went 1-1 in their SEISC North Division doubleheader against Wapello on Friday. The boys’ team won 50-42, and the girls fell 51-35.
The W-MU boys trailed 11-9 after the first quarter but outscored Wapello 41-31 in the final two quarters. Jared Arnold scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Ty Yocum had 12. Christian Gerot scored nine. Daunte Oepping had eight points and 10 assists. Juanito Piper scored five, and Dawgon Bergthold had three.
The girls had a tuogh start, trailing 10-4 after the first quarter and 25-17 at halftime. Wapello outscored W-MU in every period.
Jobey Malone had a big game despite the loss, scoring 16 points and blocking fuor shots. Kyndal Townsley scored 10 ponits. Farrah Nelson had seven, and Bradie Buffington had two. Kelly Malone didn’t score, but led the team with three assists.
