Mid-Prairie FFA members stay busy all year round

WELLMAN — In February 2021, Sub-District Career Development Events were held in Marengo with two members participating. Members communicated with Mr. Foster’s middle school classes throughout the year to present information to the Ag Life Science classes. A faculty breakfast was held in appreciation of everything teachers do for members. Four members of the Mid-Prairie FFA chapter attended the Legislative Symposium.
In March 2021, Mid-Prairie FFA members also attended the District CDEs with the Secretary’s Book and Reporter’s Scrapbook competing. The Secretary’s Book advanced to state and the Reporter’s Scrapbook was the alternate to state. The Food for America program was presented to third graders virtually at all Mid-Prairie elementary Schools. Two members ran for District Office with one being elected to serve as the NW VP of the SE District.
In April, the 18 members of the FFA chapter traveled to Des Moines for the State FFA Convention, where the Secretary’s Book received a bronze rating. Three members of the chapter received their Iowa FFA Degrees. The Greenhand Quiz Team received a silver and the Ag Sales team received a bronze. The Biotechnology team received a silver. Members also had their first “Drive a Tractor to School” Day.
In May, the Annual FFA Banquet was held honoring FFA members. Members picked up trash along Hwy. 22 as a part of the Adopt-a-Highway program. Buckle Up or Eat Glass seat belt check was held at the High School. Members assisted in working with flags at the Kalona and Wellman Cemeteries. Members provided treat bags for teachers.
In June, 10 Mid-Prairie FFA members attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Camp in Bloomfield. Members assisted during the West Chester Cleanup Day.
In July, members participated in the Wellman Fourth of July parade. Many members showed livestock at the Washington and Johnson Co. Fairs, and participated in livestock judging contests at both county fairs. The chapter hosted a cookout and kickball for all FFA members.
August found 15 members of the MP chapter showed or assisted at the State Fair. Four members served as ISF Grandstand Ushers.
The school year began with the Annual Ice Cream Social on the first day of school. The chapter once again collected trash along our Adopt-a-Highway roadway. Members also cleaned up trash after all home football games. Members organized a pull tab drive for the Ronald McDonald House.
October was spent participating in the Linn-Mar Freshman/Sophomore Livestock judging contest. Ten members of the MP chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Two members of the Mid-Prairie FFA chapter received their American FFA Degree. One member participated in the Global Youth Institute.
In November, Mid-Prairie FFA members participated in the District Greenhand Fire-up Camp. The chapter hosted a State FFA Officer for a day. Six members participated in the Amplify Leadership Conference and four members participated in the Transform Conference.
December brought the fruit and cheese sales to an end and the Christmas Party. FFA members sponsored Christmas events for seminars. Members took a tour of Kinze Manufacturing.
January 2022 was spent preparing for contests at the Sub-District and District levels. Five members completed their Iowa FFA Degree applications. One member is running for District Office. Five members participated in the Amplify Conference.
