The Cemetery and Building Committee of the Washington City Council agreed Monday to rent a room on the second floor of the old library to Washington County Public Health for $220 per month. The collapsed building in the 200 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington just moved one step closer to becoming city property. The owners of 207 and 209 S. Marion Ave., Alfonso and Julia Raymundo, signed a contract Friday to sell the property to the city for $12,300. The Raymundos signed the document one day after it was signed by City Administrator Dave Plyman and reviewed by City Attorney Craig Arbuckle.

Local farmers were able to escape the predicted rainfall early this week, but their luck finally ran out Thursday when steady rains fell for most of the day. Washington residents need not be alarmed when they see smoke coming from their rooftop sewer vents in the next few weeks. Farmers across the county have just begun the fall harvest, a little bit behind schedule compared to previous years.
