Revisions add penalties for expired registration, lets residents park in their yards with a time limit

Washington City Council members voted unanimously to terminate the employment of City Clerk Amanda Waugh at a special meeting on June 24. Officials cited “performance issues” in their explanations for the move.

Washington City Council members voted 5-0 Tuesday night to approve a special election date in August to pick a new at-large city council member who will replace Millie Youngquist.

In sudden change of plans, council members said they simply couldn’t decide between four applicants for a previously expected appointment to the at-large seat with a term running through 2027.

The Washington City Council expects to appoint someone to a typically elected position on May 21, now that former officeholder Millie Youngquist has taken on the role of mayor, and left her at-large council chair vacant.

Next issue: finding out who will take her place on council.
